Hi Guys,
I want to share with you the first training I have ran just 2 days after graduated from our NLP Practitioner course. It is an in-house training and the organization had asked me month ago, however because I was quite busy with my office works and course on scheduled, then both parties find the only possible time are on 16 & 17 June 2007.
The Organization
GAYa Nusantara (Gaya = Style but it obviously a gay organization from how they write it, Nusantara = Indonesian archipelago is also call Nusantara, refer to the name appeared on several 7th century scripture). The organization is ASPAC Official Partner of The Ford Foundation and or supported by international organization such as The Ford Foundation, Hivos (not sure what is stand for, but kind of HIV things), and ASA.
In Indonesia, particularly in Surabaya their efforts to prevent the spread out HIV AIDS is remarkable. Ex gay & transsexual prostitute are recruited to educated the ones that still working as commercial sex worker (yeah, we actually call is this way); the essential of using condom, regular medical check up etc. The organization also visit health care or medical centre such as hospital, clinic etc regularly to briefing the doctor and paramedic how to behave when they are doing treatment to people with HIV/AIDS.
When I said their efforts are remarkable, I made conclusion based on that they were regularly invited to attend international HIV/AIDS forum, including WHO (Word Health Organization).
So…the 15 participants in my 2 days workshop are gay, lesbian and transsexual whose job are to briefing prostitutes on business, doctors and paramedics. One of them was going to Chiang Mai, Thailand last Monday where he would give speech about gay prostitute in Indonesia.
Without well preparation and did not have enough time to know those people, I opened the workshop with short opening and then asked them to do presentation in front of the class. Some of them was so nervous unable to delivered the topic he had prepared. Few were good.
After they had done the 5 to 10 minutes speech and cam recorded, I decided to trained them representational system, how to enhance speech using VAK preference words. Still had no glue what to teach the next day, the day 1 sessions ended.
Day 2 after refreshed myself with a good night sleep, I decided to teach them what I just learned from our class, the NLP Presupposition “body and mind are one”, to open the channel for them to learn about state management. I asked them to stand erect, closed eyes, aware where they were standing, aware of how the breath etc…
After coffee break, I started to teach them NBG technique. Because of NLP is alien to them, and not enough time to teach about rapport, I remember the new code NLP I have learnt before in the other course; a short cut to build rapport is to think in mind that the person we are talking to is a very important person and whatever he or she is talking is a very interesting one and deserved a full attention. Without mentioning the details of SCORE model, I used it to elicit information.
The reason I have choose NBG is because from the presentation they did show lack of resourceful experience, so I can’t use other technique such as Resourceful Anchor.
Evaluation
At the end of the exercises, the participants were able to demonstrated:
ü Ability to facilitated other using NBG technique.
ü When one of the participant can’t recall a role model nor resourceful experiences (step 7), the other participant, i.e. his facilitator was able to improvised by asking his client to think of a time when the client was speech well in their regular meeting.
ü One participant was very unconfident, so I coached him myself. For sometime he was unable to reconstruct any picture, then I used Score model to elicit more information.
ü To test how the participants were already have the new behaviour, I asked them to do presentations with a new topic, without text, and they all able to do with new confident. So I can see my piece of work was well done.
Well, I hope you will find this sharing useful. If you have feed back for me, please feel free.
Best regards
